Season for Gratitude

thanksgivingWe are half way through autumn, the season for the Lung/Large Intestine Meridian. We treated less sore throats, sinus symptoms and bowel problems this season than any other year. I believe it is because more of you are getting your tune ups and taking your supplements. It is really important to get your Acupuncture treatment every three months. The whole immune system is easily strengthened by Acupuncture and nutrition.

For those of you that have problems with colds, sinus congestion or running noses with sneezing, we can help. Happily we are able to shortened the duration of symptoms and alleviate the pain quicker with Acupuncture and homeopathy. In some patients we eliminated the symptoms in four hours!

We have homeopathic injections available (with a teeny tiny needle) for $25 that help to boost the immune system meridians.

Call for your appointment as soon as possible. You don’t have to have a treatment at the same time, it’s just a great idea.

Keep in mind to gargle with warm salt water with the first inkling of a sore throat. If there is phlegm, slice a lemon, put salt on it and it the slice quickly. We also have a complete homeopathic pharmacy for any symptom.

November is here which means the beginning of a stressful time for most people. Acupuncture can help you cope with the craziness (self imposed – we do have choices) of the holidays. It does seem we are starting earlier this year – everyone is ready for winter.

Try this technique to see if it helps. First take a deep breath count to four – hold it for the count of four and release it for a count of four. Do this again. Breathing like this will relieve your symptoms of stress. Nothing is more important than good health. With good health you can cope with anything!

For some reason we tend to over eat starting now to Jan. 1st. The average American gains over 7 lbs each year and usually does not lose it. You can be willing to change your behaviors and make better choices. Most of my patients know I favor the“No Grain” food plan for 3 weeks at a time. You can start now and in three weeks when Thanksgiving comes, eat a moderate amount of your favorite things. Resume the “No Grains” food plan December 1st and by Christmas you can add grains. By now you will find your carb cravings are a lot less. Start again January 2nd and after three weeks pay attention to how you feel without the grains; many people have a lot less pain. We have had reports of losing 7-24 pounds within three months. See the food plan to the right. We plan to start another Our OnTrac Weight Wellness class has been very successful and we plan to start another one in January.

Wishing you all a peace filled, love filled Thanksgiving season. Please know I am grateful for your confidence.

Fondly,  Rusty Gaffney

No Grains Food Plan

Eat six servings of the following: chicken, tuna, fish, and eggs (1-2), beef, nuts (14), cheese (1 oz) and 1-2 cups of beans for fiber and a sense of fullness.

Eat 7-9 servings of veggies a day (lettuce can be eaten but not counted). Use lemon, olive oil and or vinegar for your dressing. Try kale in your salad or make a veggie soup and add it in the last five minutes.

Use lots of herbs and spices but limit salt; only one piece of fruit a day but no juice unless it is a veggie/tomato juice.

Do not eat cereals, grains, bread, crackers, rice, oatmeal, cakes, and cookies.

You can eat little red potatoes but only one serving three times a week; sweet potatoes are great and you can eat one a day. Drink plenty of water. If you are used to drinking milk, drink only 8 oz. a day. Try Almond Milk; the vanilla flavored 40 calorie one is very popular. Limit coffee and tea and try green and herbal teas. No soy products.
